Oktoberfest 2020: Why weekdays are better!
Oktoberfest 2020 is fast approaching, and with the festival growing by the hundreds every year, Oktoberfest weekdays are holding better value than Oktoberfest weekends. As per tradition, on September 19th at noon, the Mayor of Munich will tap the first keg of beer. Therefore this action is symbolically allowing thousands of locals and travellers, old and young to come together for sixteen days of merry beer-drinking, mouth-watering food, traditional Bavarian outfits and many family-friendly activities.
What is Oktoberfest?
There is talk that Oktoberfest 2020 is yet to be Munich’s best and busiest festival. But what is it? Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer celebration. You can find this famous festival in a meadow named Theresienwiese just outside of Munich’s city centre. The festival holds a rich history, stemming from a wedding celebration in Bavaria from more than 200 years ago.
Though the official festival is in Munich, similar events are modelled all around the world. No matter where it is, when you think Oktoberfest, think big, big glasses of beer, live music, delicious food, dirndls and lederhosen. Oktoberfest is a MUST to experience in your lifetime.
Oktoberfest 2020: Will i get more value from weekdays?
The Oktoberfest event is a HUGE festival, every year, an average of six million visitors from all parts of the globe swarm to be apart of it. Lines to enter the most popular beer tents can be frightful during Oktoberfest weekends. The opening weekend of Oktoberfest 2019, myself and a tour group of twelve people were stuck lining up outside the festival for one hour – we weren’t even inside the festival yet!
The best parts of the event can be enjoyed sufficiently during the week. From ordering food, going on rides, finding tables and of course ordering many glasses of delicious Bavarian beer – you don’t want to spend your time waiting too long for these. Having been a passionate Oktoberfest goer since 2015, my best days at the festival have been during the week. Attending Oktoberfest weekdays, you will have a guarantee to enjoy yourself with your friends and less waiting around in crowds.
Oktoberfest 2020: How to get a Table?
There are fourteen main beer tents at Oktoberfest 2020 that hold around 80,000 seats at tables. From that, approximately 30-50% of these seats the locals will reserve for themselves almost a year in advance. Everyone else remaining will be battling for the limited unreserved seats. It is proven to be much easier to find places at a table on Oktoberfest weekdays. Tables are like gold at Oktoberfest. To guarantee a table on the weekend, I recommend making a paid reservation. Else by attending the festival during the week, you heighten the chances of having a seat at a table.

Oktoberfest weekend: Transport
to the festival
Transport prices to Munich, especially for the weekends, rise dramatically leading up to the festival. The best way to travel to Munich from another country is via bus, plane or train. Transport is going to be cheaper to book on a Tuesday than it will be to travel on a Friday. Reserving your transportation in advance is highly recommended. Many of the people visiting Oktoberfest are working Europeans, most of the people attending the festival will come on the weekends. Arranging to visit during Oktoberfest weekdays will save you money from the inflated travel costs.
