General

What is the difference between the two camps?

Our Original camp has been operating at Oktoberfest for the last five years in the eastern part of Munich near Messestadt Ost, and has gained a legendary reputation amongst travellers as a great place to chill, drink, party and base yourselves for the Oktoberfest festivities.

This year we’re super excited to be starting up a second camp to expand the options for our travelling guests in 2018! Based at the former equestrian arena of the 1974 Munich Olympics, we have a lovely, secluded area near Riem in the inner-east of the city with our new Glamping Experience*!

The two camps are approximately an hour walk between them, so please make sure you are heading to the camp that corresponds with your booking confirmation!

In addition we have an events team at each of our camps who will help you connect, mingle and party your way to a memorable Oktoberfest! Keep your eyes peeled for the events board in reception detailing all of our fun events and activities.

Wanting to head further afield? We’ve also got you covered! Our reception can help you arrange all of your day trips and excursions – just ask at Reception.

There will be differences in the facilities and inclusions between the two camps, so click the link below to be forwarded to the relevant section for your camp of choice:

*Please note there are also a handful of standard tents in addition to the Glamping tents at the Glamping Experience site. Please see the options in depth by clicking the ‘Book Now’ option above.

Heading to the Oktoberfest

When does Oktoberfest start? When does it open and close?

Oktoberfest 2018 will take place from September 22nd, 12:00am to October 7th, 11:30pm.

Beer tents:
On opening day, beer is served from 12noon until 10:30pm. From Monday to Friday, beer is sold from 10am to 10:30pm, on weekends and holidays, the tents serve beer from 9am to 10:30pm.

The exceptions are Käfer’s Wiesnschänke and the Wine Tent, where last orders are at 12:30am and the tent closes at 1am.

Stands:
On opening day, the stands are open from 10 am to midnight. From Monday to Thursday, opening hours are from 10 am to 11:30 pm, on Friday until midnight. On Saturdays and Sunday October 2nd, stands are open from 9 am to midnight and from 9 am to 11:30 pm on the first and second Sundays and Holidays.

Do I need a reservation at the beer tents?

You will find seats at the Oktoberfest especially hard to come by on the weekends, with most suggesting you need to be there well before 8am to get a place – sometimes much earlier.

During the week you should be fine if you turn up early afternoon, however please be aware that this will vary from day to day, so we suggest the earlier the better!

How much is a beer?

Prices for a mass beer (1 litre) at the Oktoberfest are approximately €11-12. A small tip of a Euro is regarded as polite.

Do I have to pay entrance fee for Oktoberfest?

Nope! It’s completely free to walk in and explore.

What is a dirndl or lederhosen? Where can I buy one?

A dirndl is a traditional Bavarian dress for ladies and the lederhosen is the equivalent for the men – both are well associated with Oktoberfest and we think that kitting yourself out in this get-up for the ultimate Oktoberfest experience! We have a great partner who we work with on our campsites who can sort you out (and with a cheeky discount for our lovely guests), so ask us at reception when you arrive about the options.

Can I take a backpack to Oktoberfest?

Due to security reasons, you cannot take backpacks into the Oktoberfest.

What else is there to do in Munich?

In our experience a full early morning to late night drinking session is a fair challenge to do back-to-back, so why not stay an extra night or two and have a day out to explore Munich or further afield? Chat with one of our reception staff if you need some inspiration!
